Shrek Musical Retreat!

Dear CCDS middle school families,

Welcome back to school! One of the major events this fall is the annual school musical. This year it is Shrek Jr! All middle school students (grades 5-8) participate by performing onstage, creating sets and props, playing in the band, or working on the tech crew.

A kickoff retreat will be held on Tuesday, August 29 from 9:00-2:00. (The day before school begins.) This retreat is especially important for eighth grade students, as they will be away at the overnight camping trip Wednesday- Friday. The retreat will include music, dance, and art opportunities.

A pizza lunch will be provided. In addition, please bring an item to share:
5th Grade- chips or pretzels
6th Grade- cut up fruit
7th grade- veggies and dip/hummus
8th grade- drinks

Looking forward to a great musical experience with Shrek!

All Are Invited to Attend Great Escapes Auction Meeting – Wednesday August 9, 2017 @ 10 A.M.

Message from Karla Thompson
Great Escapes Auction Committee

Good morning,

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  It’s hard to believe that school will be starting before we know it.  It is time to start thinking of the year ahead and of all the great things that will be happening throughout the year.  It’s never too early to start planning for Great Escapes.  Great Escapes is Canton Country Day School’s annual auction held in March.  It is our largest Parent’s Association sponsored event for the year.  It is a huge success every year but would not be possible without the support and help of the entire CCDS family and our community.  There are many areas and capacities in which support and volunteering is needed.  Our first meeting will be Wednesday, August 9th, at 10:00 in the library at CCDS. Looking forward to see lots of familiar faces as well as welcoming all new families. Please let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see you on the 9th.

Save the Date:  Great Escapes Auction March 10, 2018

CCDS Soccer Conditioning Beings August 1st @ 6:30 P.M.

Message from Coach Adams:   Reminder that conditioning will begin Tuesday, August 1st @ 6:30 pm, for the 2017 CCDS Soccer season. These conditioning sessions are a mandatory part of our season. If you have not already contacted me regarding any conflicts please do so at your earliest convenience. Please ensure that a completed physical form for your athlete is on hand or has been turned in no later than tomorrow or your athlete will not be able to participate.  If you have any questions please contact Mr. Bortz bbortz@cantoncountryday.org or myself  jadams45@att.net  as soon as possible.  Thank you for all of your support and efforts so far! I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Make sure you have the following items with you tomorrow:

1. WATER!!! It will be HOT and you will be TIRED! You need to have plenty of fluids to replenish what you lose during practice. There will be a jug to refill your water bottle but for hygiene reasons it is not meant to be used as a drinking fountain. (Start drinking plenty of water today! You need to hydrate well before you start exercising.)

2. Wear running shoes to the start of practice.

3. Wear appropriate clothing. As I have said before, oversized or baggy clothing hinders your movement. All clothing must meet dress code.

4. Soccer Cleats. Bring them with you but do not wear them at the beginning of practice.

5. Shin guards and socks to go over them. Bring them with you, but do not wear them to practice.

6. A soccer ball. Size 5 (If you do not have one, we can supply one for practice)

7. A POSITIVE ATTITUDE! Conditioning will be hard! You will be tired! Get a good night’s sleep tonight and be ready to work hard!

I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! Please be on time and ready to start @ 6:30.

CCDS’ Corbin Williams Considered For Semifinalist/Finalist In Science Competition!

Congratulations are in order for CCDS Science teacher, Mr. Patrick Ater, and student, Corbin Williams!  Mr. Ater recently received a letter from  from Boardcom MASTERS that reads:

Your student, Corbin Williams, submitted an application to the Broadcom MASTERS national middle school science competition! The application closed on June 14th, and Corbin’s application is under evaluation and in consideration for semifinalist and finalist status. Congratulations to Canton Country Day School on this achievement!

Corbin’s selection as a Broadcom MASTERS nominee is a great honor—only 10% of science fair projects nationwide are selected for this opportunity. Corbin will receive a t-shirt and bumper sticker, and could be named one of the top 300 MASTERS (announced September 6th) or one of the 30 finalists (announced September 20th). The 30 finalists will gather in Washington, DC for a week of competition—including presentation of their research project and hands-on science and engineering challenges. Top prizes include $25,000, trips to STEM summer camps, and more. Schools of Broadcom MASTERS finalists each receive $1,000 from the Broadcom Foundation.

All of this is possible thanks to your support! Thank you for encouraging your students to pursue an independent research project and enter one of our affiliated science fairs. You have opened many doors for your students, and we hope to see more nominees from your school in the future.

If you would like to learn more about the Society for Science & the Public, please visit our website.

Corbin is the son of Matt and Susi Williams and will enter 8th grade in the fall.  CCDS congratulates Corbin and Mr. Ater on their efforts!  We wish Corbin the best!  A good beginning…never ends!
