Early Learning At CCDS

The Beginning Of Your Child's Educational Journey

Our Early Learning Program Is Open To Children Who Are Three To Five Years Old, Which Is The Most Critical Time of Their Development

Early Learning

Our philosophy for early learners is that children learn through purposeful play which fosters growth for the whole child, nurturing emotional, social, cognitive and physical skills. Children are encouraged both individually and cooperatively to explore, experiment, discover, create meaning, and solve problems through engagement of materials and activities that promote curiosity and wonder. Our early learning program offers an enriched educational experience that supports a variety of learners. Community is developed and supported through whole and small group activities with mindful observation of each child’s needs.

The Preschool classroom consists of three and four year olds where social, emotional, and adaptive skills are the focus. Our transitional kindergarten classroom is Junior Kindergarten for four and five year olds. JK continues to practice social, emotional, and adaptive skills along with preparing each child with academic skills needed for kindergarten.

CCDS early learners participate in co-curricular classes weekly, which include Library, Music, Art, Movement, Wilderness & Wildlife, and Physical Education all providing unique engaging experiences.

CCDS provides families with several different scheduling options for our Early Learning program. We offer both a half day (8:20 am to 12:30 pm) and a full day (8:20 am to 3:20 pm) scheduling option. During the admissions process, you will work with the Admissions and Business office to select the schedule that fits best for you and your child.

Reading and Language Arts

We provide an enriched language environment, and encourage oral expression through meaningful interactions with adults and peers. Phonetically taught lessons gradually encompass all forms of language. These lessons include letter sounds and formation, written. expression, reading, punctuation, elements of grammar, spelling, and children's literature.

Sensorial

Materials are designed to encourage sensory exploration of the world by helping the child isolate, refine, compare, and classify perceptions of sounds, smells, colors, textures, sizes, and shapes.

Math

We begin the introduction to mathematics by using concrete objects. The child then naturally progresses to incorporating symbols and understanding more abstract ideas. The curriculum also introduces the child to measurement, geometry, and fractions.

History, Geography, & Culture

Children gain an awareness of the world around them by learning about the continents, and
the different cultures around the world. This helps to raise their consciousness about other
people, gain understanding and tolerance; and therefore, gain compassion for all the people
in the world.

STEM

Students will learn about the process of scientific inquiry in a developmentally appropriate manner and with modeling and support.  Topics will come from the three main branches of science - Life, Earth and Space, and Physical, and will support classroom explorations and projects as appropriate.

Additional Classes

Our students also have Art, Library, Physical Education, Music, Movement, Wilderness and Wildlife.  Information about those classes can be found on their respective pages.
